We find out in this article, the regulations for sailing in northern Sardinia.
1. Permissions
Sailing in the waters of northern Sardinia may require specific permits, especially in protected areas such as the National Park of the Archipelago of La Maddalena and the Protected Marine Area of Tavolara – Punta Coda Cavallo. You must obtain a permit to anchor and transit in some sensitive areas. These permits can be requested from local maritime authorities or through specific online platforms.
2. Limitations of Speed
To ensure the safety of all users of the sea and protect the marine ecosystem, there are strict speed restrictions. Near coastlines and in protected marine areas, the maximum permitted speed is usually 5 knots. In addition, it is forbidden to create waves that can disturb other boats or damage the coast.
3. Areas of anchorage
The anchorage is regulated to protect the seabed and the posidonia prairies, essential for the ecosystem. In many areas of northern Sardinia, anchorage is allowed only in designated areas. These areas are usually marked by buoys and signs.
4. Collection of Waste
Respect for the marine environment is a priority. All waste generated must be retained on board and properly disposed of in equipped ports. It is forbidden to throw any type of waste into the sea, including organic substances and untreated bilge water.
6. Signage and Navigation
It is mandatory to comply with maritime signs and international standards to prevent boarding at sea (COLREG). Particular attention should be paid to hazard warnings, buoys and information signs along the coast.
7. Safety on board
Each craft shall be equipped with safety systems appropriate to the type of craft. These include life-saving devices, fire extinguishers, warning flares and appropriate navigational instruments. It is also mandatory to have on board a VHF radio for communications with the maritime authorities.
